Bus accident injures 25 people, including 16 children

In Moor Haven, Florida, a four vehicle crash occurred, injuring 25 people, including 16 children. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, just prior to 8:00 p.m., on January 20, there was a collision between three semi-trucks and a school bus on U.S. 27, five miles north of State Road 29.

The bus passengers were from a church in Sunrise, Florida. Six occupants of the other vehicles also suffered injuries, and at least one passenger suffered severe injuries. The collision occurred as the bus driver made a u-turn, and then a left turn onto U.S. 27 entering the path of an Inter 9400I semi-truck.

The operator of the Inter 9400I semi-truck tried unsuccessfully to avoid crashing into the school bus, and struck the left rear side of the bus. At the same time as the driver of the Dodge reduced his speed to avoid the crash with the Inter 9400I semi-truck, a FRHT Conver semi-truck motorist struck the rear of the Dodge. The bus driver went past the roadway, and flipped over on its left side.

The Inter 9400I moved across the median and lanes headed north on U.S. 27 prior to striking a fence and bushes. The Dodge flipped over, and came to a halt on the shoulder of U.S. 27. Then, the FRHT Conver exploded into flames. The six people who were inside the two tractor-trailers and pick-up truck were immediately taken to the hospital. Officials are conducting an investigation into the crash while charges are pending.
