Roadway departure crashes, sometimes called run-off-road collisions, are frequently severe. Because most of these crashes occur at high speeds, they can cause catastrophic injury and even death. Typically, roadway departure accidents are caused by driver error. They have frequently been attributed to driving while intoxicated, distracted driving, overcorrecting, driving while drowsy, and speeding through a steep curve or grade. If you are driving a vehicle that leaves the roadway, the first thing you should do is not panic. Slow the vehicle down by easing off the gas pedal and begin slowly applying the brakes. Once you’ve brought the vehicle to a stop, get back on the roadway as traffic allows.
Fox News reports that a pickup truck crashed through the baggage claim at a Florida airport.
An investigation has been launched into why the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the baggage claim area of the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The truck had been traveling nearby on U.S. Highway 41 when it left the roadway. It then crashed through the airport’s perimeter fence, crossed part of the tarmac, plowed through a cinder block wall, then entered the baggage claim area. The truck came to a stop when it struck the desk of a rental car service.
The two people who were behind the rental car desk area were not injured. No one else inside the airport was hurt.
The driver of the pickup was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The airport is operational. A single baggage belt was damaged in the crash and is out of service.
