One of the most common causes of accidents at intersections is failure to yield. In general, each state has its own laws on who has the right of way in a situation. Failure to cede to the vehicle with the right of way can lead to a citation for failure to yield.
In most cases, drivers making a turn onto one road from another must yield to oncoming traffic. In the case of making left turns, many intersections have traffic lights with turn signals. Turning into the path of another vehicle while making a left turn is one of the most common causes of traffic accidents.
The Villages News reports that a driver was cited for failure to yield following an accident which required a passenger to be extricated from the vehicle.
The crash occurred on June 11th at approximately 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 466 and Morse Boulevard.
The Florida Highway Patrol indicated that a 2010 Buick LaCrosse driven by 62-year-old Carolyn Dafoe Hubert was traveling east in the left turn lane of CR 466. She turned towards Morse Boulevard in the path of a 2018 Nissan driven by 21-year-old Riley Elizabeth Heise.
86-year-old Dorothy White Webb had to be freed from the vehicle by cutting the door. She suffered from serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Heise suffered from injuries in the crash as well and was also transported to a local hospital.
Hubert received a citation for failure to yield as a result of the accident.
