Teens Standing In Street Struck By Car

Florida is a state with the highest number of pedestrian accidents in the United States. There are many causes behind this alarming statistic. One of the leading causes is the climate of Florida, which allows for year-round outdoor activities, which leads to more pedestrian traffic on roadways. High population and tourism account for other factors in the high rate of pedestrian collisions in Florida. A lack of sidewalks in many areas of Florida is yet another reason for the high rate of pedestrian accidents. 

While the pedestrian is at fault in a number of these collisions, the driver is at fault in their share. Pedestrian accidents are often caused by driver inattention, malfunctioning traffic signals, and DUI are also leading causes of pedestrian accidents. 

WKRG reports that the Crestview Police Department is investigating an accident where a teen was hit by a car. 

The crash occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on July 3rd on Stillwell Boulevard. 

According to police, a group of teens were observed on surveillance footage walking into the travel lanes of Stillwell Boulevard. They stood in the street for a brief amount of time. 

The video also showed a vehicle driving normally with its headlights on traveling on Stillwell. 

The driver of the vehicle said that they did not see the group of teens before striking one of them. The teen was identified as 14-year-old Jada Sabio. She was flown to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and then to a Pensacola hospital. 

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
