Patch.com reports on a rollover crash in Alligator Alley that claimed the life of a young toddler last Thursday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on the stretch of Interstate 75 known as Alligator Alley between the Naples area and the Miami-Fort Lauderdale when a 33-year-old man driving a pickup truck eastbound suffered from a tire blowout, causing the truck to flip several times. A 1-year-old boy was ejected from the vehicle into a nearby canal where he was later found dead by searchers. A 31-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman sustained serious injuries in the wreck, while the driver, a 10-year-old girl, an 8-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old were all injured to lesser degrees. No one in the car was wearing a seat belt or in a child seat.
Space Coast Daily reported on another accident Friday in which a 25-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate 95 on foot after a separate accident. Florida Highway Patrol spokespeople stated that the victim had been involved in an accident on I-95 northbound, and both vehicles pulled onto the shoulder near mile marker 190. The victim tried to cross the northbound lanes on foot and was struck by a second vehicle around 10:50 p.m.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
