WSVN Channel 7 News Miami reported recently on an arrest made in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Lauderhill.
Police arrested a 19-year-old man who allegedly caused a hit-and-run accident on Monday morning along State Road 441 and fled the scene with his two children that had also been in the wreck with him.
A red SUV was making a left turn onto SR 441 and collided with a green BMW. The green BMW’s driver and children fled the scene in a vehicle that arrived to pick them up shortly after the wreck, while the red SUV’s occupants were trapped inside. Several onlookers jumped in to try to rescue the occupants of the red SUV, and were able to pull both members from the damaged car. They were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, but one of the two did not survive the injuries she sustained in the wreck and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the red SUV remains hospitalized but is recovering.
The green BMW’s driver faces several charges as a result of the accident, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death and child neglect. Both the children with him suffered injuries in the crash.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident.
