WPBF Channel 25 ABC News reported that a biologist employed by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission is dead and two others, also civilian biologists, were injured in a tragic boat crash in West Palm Beach on Tuesday morning.
According to spokespeople from the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue organization, the incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. in the C-51 canal, which runs parallel to Southern Boulevard, near the overpass for Congress Avenue. A small boat hit a piling under the bridge of the eastbound ramp from Congress Avenue to Southern Boulevard. A female biologist, 29 years of age from Hypoluxo, was ejected from the boat, causing her death, while the driver and another passenger were both injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, where they are both reportedly in stable condition.
The accident is under investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Responding agencies included the Fish and Wildlife Commission, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, and the Marine Unit and Dive Team of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. First responders were on the scene for several hours doing cleanup and investigative work. The identity of the victims has not been released yet, nor have any further details.
