KSDK Channel 5 NBC News recently reported that a pit crew member for the Hendricks Motorsports NASCAR team and his newlywed wife were killed in a Florida motor vehicle accident last Tuesday, November 21, while en route to their honeymoon.
The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21 in the Florida keys, according to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, when the couple was northbound on a two-lane highway in Florida. For unknown reasons still under investigation, the car crossed the center line of the roadway into the southbound lane. An oncoming southbound pickup truck tried to avoid the collision by driving onto the shoulder, but was unsuccessful, and the two vehicles collided. All drivers and passengers involved were wearing their seatbelts.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries, while his passengers, two women 58 years of age and 62 years of age, were both airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
A press release from NASCAR noted that the pit crew member had been with Hendricks Motorsports for eight seasons, most recently as a crew member for the number 88 car driven by Alex Bowman. He was a former middle linebacker for the University of Alabama varsity football team before his NASCAR career.
