News Channel 4 Jax recently reported that a local man was injured in a car accident last Thursday after leading Florida state troopers on a high-speed chase along Interstate 295 when a state trooper executed a maneuver to force the car to a stop.
According to representatives of the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, near the interchange of Old St Augustine and I-295 in the Jacksonville area, when state troopers observed a reckless driver in a white Cadillac Escalade speeding down the interstate in excess of 100 miles per hour. Attempts to get the driver to pull over failed, and multiple troopers were pursuing as they crossed the Buckman Bridge in the direction of Orange Park.
With the pursuit approaching Blanding Blvd, a state trooper executed a PIT maneuver, or Precision Immobilization Technique, by coming up on the car’s rear quarter and bumping it to force it into a spin-out. Due to the high speeds sustained in the incident, the impact forced the Escalade to roll over and land on its roof.
The man was arrested peacefully after his car was immobilized. No further details are yet available.
