The Tampa Bay News reported recently that a man has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) as well as other charges after a deadly St Petersburg accident on Wednesday, December 16 that was responsible for the death of one driver and injuries to others.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, a St Petersburg man, driving under a suspended and revoked driver’s license, was to blame for a deadly five-car pileup and has been charged with DUI Manslaughter and other, lesser charges. The incident took place between 6:10 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) near mile marker 28 of I-275. adjacent to the Gandy Boulevard exit and shut down all southbound lanes of I-275 in the aftermath while state troopers investigated the tragic accident.
Preliminary investigative reports indicate that the man, driving an SUV, failed to slow down as he approached a congested section of interstate. He struck the rear end of a sedan driven by a man from Parrish, which then was driven forward into a Sedan driven by a man from Palmetto. That car was driven into two other sedans in the next lane, driven by men from St. Pete and Tampa.
The driver from Parrish in the car initially impacted died from his injuries while several others were injured.
