ABC Channel 7 News reports that a motor vehicle accident in the Fort Myers area led to a car catching fire along Colonial Boulevard on Sunday, December 27.’’No injuries were reported but the spectacular fiery incident caused quite a stir.
According to officials with the Fort Myers Police Department, the incident took place between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Colonial Blvd in Fort Myers near the intersection of Colonial Blvd and Challenger Blvd, A white sport-utility vehicle (SUV) collided with another vehicle occupied by a man, a woman, and a toddler. The SUV caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed in flame, although all three occupants made it out of the vehicle safely.
The incident blocked two lanes of traffic on Colonial Boulevard, and authorities asked drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid congestion and delays as they worked to investigate and clean up the wreckage caused by the incident. No other specifics, such as who caused the accident or the condition of the other vehicle and the occupants thereof, was released to the press. The accident remains under investigation. No reason was given for why the SUV may have caught fire in the incident.
