The Shore News Network reported recently that on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driver succumbed to the injuries he sustained in an accident that took place on Friday, February 5 in Deltona, Florida where he allegedly collided with a FedEx truck on a local roadway.
According to officials with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on Friday, February 5, 2021 between 9:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) near the intersection of Courtland Boulevard and South Dorchester Drive in Deltona, Florida. The initial investigation showed that a FedEx truck and an ATV were both northbound on Courtland Boulevard approaching the intersection, with the ATV traveling along the right (east side) shoulder of the road. The driver of the FedEx truck attempted to turn right onto South Dorchester, and the rider of the ATV applied brakes to avoid a collision. The sudden brake application caused the ATV to pitch forward, and both the ATV and the rider struck the passenger side of the FedEx truck.
While the driver of the truck was uninjured, the ATV rider was transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital with serious injuries, where he died just over two weeks later.
