The Bradenton Herald reported recently that two people were killed and two more injured in Manatee County during a head-on motor vehicle accident on the morning of Sunday, May 16, 2021.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred between 3:40 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Sunday, May 16, 2021 on Moccasin Wallow Road east of Carter Road in Manatee County, northeast of the Tampa Bay area. A Toyota was traveling east on Moccasin Wallow while a Honda was traveling west along the same roadway. Simultaneously, an unknown Chevrolet Camaro was traveling west and tried to pass the Honda in the eastbound lane.
The driver of the Toyota attempted to avoid the oncoming Camaro by swerving right onto the grass shoulder. When he attempted to steer back into the eastbound travel lane, he overcorrected and traveled into the westbound lane, colliding with the Honda.
The driver of the Toyota, a Parrish woman, perished at the scene. Her passenger, a Parrish man 52 years of age, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The Honda’s driver, a woman from Sun City Center 65 years of age, was in critical condition and her passenger, a 95-year-old man from Sun City Center, was killed in the collision. All four were wearing seat belts.
