Saad Nadeem Earns the 2022 Chalik & Chalik Community Engagement Scholarship

We are thrilled to announce that Saad Nadeem has been selected as the winner of the 2022 Chalik & Chalik Community Engagement Scholarship. Saad’s family immigrated to the U.S. from Pakistan in the early 2000s to pursue better career and education opportunities.

Though they’ve faced numerous obstacles, Saad has persevered and excelled in his studies at University of Houston. He writes, “…growing up in a less privileged community has not only offered financial and academic challenges. It has also helped me realize the value of a college education and a desire to succeed.”

Saad hopes to graduate in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Health, Kinesiology, and Human Nutrition and a minor in Business Administration and Biology. Upon graduating, he aims to attend medical school to cement his future as a licensed physician.

Saad’s Commitment to Community Engagement and Volunteer Work

When asked about his biggest inspiration, Saad writes of his father who, despite facing the challenges of moving to a foreign country, provided for his children and engaged in humanitarian acts. He goes on to say that the values his father demonstrated were “engraved in my heart from an early age.”

According to Saad, his experience as a Pakistani-American has shown him how fortunate he is to live in the States and highlighted the harsh reality that so many people in the world are struggling. He identifies this global inequality as the inspiration behind his desire to effect change.

Saad’s humanitarian drive has led him to work with aspiring STEM students, volunteer at science and robotics competitions, and help young scholars advance their projects. He cherishes his ability to give back and learn from the experiences he shares with young minds.

What’s Next for Saad

In addition to further humanitarian pursuits, Saad plans to graduate from medical school and apply for a residency at a local hospital in Houston. In his own words, he hopes to “grow up and become an individual who is successful not because of their career but because of who they are as a person.”
