How Three Types of Distracted Driving Cause Florida Truck Wrecks
Distracted driving is dangerous driving, often causing serious truck wrecks. Over half a million people are injured each year in distracted driving accidents, and over 6,000 people die as a result.
Despite the inherent dangers of driving while distracted, many 18-wheeler operators do it anyway. These negligent actions, which may be more common than you know, often lead to distracted driving truck accidents.
There are three basic types of distracted driving. These include:
- Visual – taking your eyes off the road, or other drivers around you
- Manual – taking your hands off the wheel, in order to perform another task (such as change the radio)
- Cognitive – taking your attention off the act of driving, while thinking about or doing something else.
While texting and driving may be the most common type of distracted driving, causing many distracted driving truck accidents, numerous other activities present a similar danger. These include, but are not limited to:
- Reading
- Eating or drinking
- Grooming
- Talking on the phone
- Watching a video
When a truck driver partakes in any of these activities while driving, they are being negligent. If they cause a truck accident as a result, they may be liable for the injuries you or a loved one sustains. In other words, you may have a legal case against them.
