Kelly: Tire Recalls

From premature separation to cracking sidewall, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company has recalled a series of Kelly Springfield tires for a number of defects. Some of these recalls are serious, and increase a person’s risk of an accident.

Kelly Springfield 28575r245 Tire Recall

In March 2002, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company announced a recall of more than 10,345 units of Kelly Springfield Tires. The recall was linked to the risk of premature tread separation. According to the company, the defect could cause the driver to potentially lose control of the vehicle, contributing to a rollover accident.

The 2002 recall wasn’t the first time that owners of Kelly tires faced problems. In 1998, the company had recalled more than 500,000 tires because of the potential for circumferential cracking in the lower sidewall, contributing to tire failure. About 594,853 tires were included in this recall.

Kelly Springfield P1957514 Tires

In 1990, Kelly Springfield recalled 76,699 tires because of a beading defect that could contribute to tire blowouts and premature tire failure.

The frightening thing about tire failure is that, for instance, a tire with tread that is separating doesn’t look that different from a safe tire, at least to the average car owner. Tire blowouts are immediate and violent, and require quick reaction skills, things that Americans aren’t taught in driving school.
