The main difference between radial and bias ply tires is that in a radial tire, the sidewall and the tread are two separate features bound together to create the tire. In a bias ply tire, multiple piles of rubber are overlapped, creating a thick layer. However, the sidewalls of bias ply tires are also interdependent. As such, both radial and bias ply tires can experience separation.

Separation occurs when one part of the tire separates itself from another part of a tire, usually a separation between the tread and the casing (tire body), or a sidewall separation. When separation occurs, the tires become weak and dangerous, increasing their risk of a blowout.

Causes of Radial/Bias Ply Tire Separation
