In fact, in 2011, two people died in a tragic crash in Texas that involved defective Goodyear tires.

Goodyear even acknowledged that tread separation of 16-inch Load Range E light-truck tires had been linked to 15 deaths and an additional 120 injuries. A number of things can cause tire defects. In most cases, tire defects are a result of a design flaw or poor manufacturing standards.

Poor manufacturing standards could include:

• improper temperatures when “cooking” the tire materials;
• the use of old or ineffective materials or adhesives; or
• the contamination of tire materials by things such as moisture, rust, or sawdust.
