According to SaferCar.gov, a website managed by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Pirelli tires have been the focal point of several different tire recalls. The following provides a brief explanation of each of the Pirelli tire recalls on the SaferCar.gov website.

• April 18, 1974: Pirelli recalls the brand’s Pirelli 100022 tires, as they were sold as seconds in Italy but not intended for use within the United States due to potential safety defects.
• June 12, 2001: The Pirelli Desert Dog tires were recalled in 2001 because of a “variability in component adhesion during production” that could lead to “chunking” and tread separation.
• June 12, 2001: Also in June of 2001, Pirelli recalled the Pirelli LT24575R16 tires for the same reason as the Desert Dog tire recall—potential chunking and tread separation.
• April 3, 2008: Pirelli recalls its Pirelli Load Range E tires because of tread chunking, tread chunkout, partial tread separation, and belt/edge separation.
• September 2, 2009: Pirelli recalls Pzero Corsa tires for tread separation and partial belt/edge separation that can occur at high speeds.
