According to a recent report appearing on the First Coast News website, a case surrounding a 19-year-old man who was reported missing on Friday evening turned into a tragedy Sunday, July 11, 2021.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputies say that 911 dispatches received a call regarding a fatal motorcycle crash at approximately 12:11 p.m. within the 4900 block of First Coast Technological Parkway.
The Sheriff’s deputies said family and friends of the victim found the missing man by pinging his cellphone. There they found his body near the entrance of the University of North Florida Campus. Authorities say that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say that he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a stand of trees. So far, officials had not pinpointed the exact time of the fatal crash, saying it could have happened any time from when he was first reported missing and Sunday.
Both the University and law enforcement officials say that the young man was not tied to the University in any way as a student, faculty, or staff member.
Jacksonville authorities say that this is the 124th fatality within the city and the 31st motorcycle facility in 2021.
