According to AAA, Florida leads the nation in the number of fatal bicycle accidents. In 2017, there were 800 people killed in Florida in bicycle accidents. Some of the most common contributing causes to bicycle accidents are failure to yield and poor lighting. Many cities in Florida have not been very accommodating when it comes to those who travel by bicycle. Another contributing cause is the fact that motorists are often not looking out for those who are walking or riding a bicycle. Many locals also stated that a lot of drivers do not obey the laws which are in place to protect cyclists.
