Channel 4 News Gainesville reports that an infant was tragically killed last Monday in a Baker County car accident.
The incident took place at the interchange of Interstate 10 and US Highway 90. A 21-year-old Altamonte Springs woman was exiting I-10 and attempting to turn onto US 90 when her sedan was impacted on the left side by a pickup truck. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, neither the child nor the woman was wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The child was killed and the woman critically injured. The man driving the pickup truck sustained only minor injuries.
This follows another fatal accident Sunday in Ocala, in which two children were critically injured in addition to two adults killed. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 28-year-old Leesburg woman was driving on US Highway 441 and failed to maintain her lane, drifting over the center line and colliding with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The woman was killed, and two child passengers, ages eight and ten, suffered critical injuries.
The two passengers in the other vehicle were a 61-year-old Ocala woman, who was critically injured, and a 70-year-old Ocala man who was killed. Both had their seat belts on. Investigators could not confirm whether the woman or children in the other vehicle were properly wearing seat belts.
