The Dothan Eagle reported that a Chipley man died last Monday from injuries sustained during a wreck on Halloween between his vehicle and a tractor-trailer providing a hayride for about 30 people.
The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 at the intersection of Corbin and Rudd Roads in Washington County. According to officials from the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim, a Chipley man 46 years of age, was eastbound on Corbin Road in an SUV when he approached a tractor-trailer driven by a Fountain man 24 years of age, towing a 24-foot trailer filled with hay and occupied by about thirty passengers. For unknown reasons still under investigation, the SUV failed to slow down and collided with the trailer at full speed.
The victim was airlifted by medical helicopter to Southeast Health in Dothan but sadly succumbed to his injuries two days later, on November 2nd. Several passengers on the hayride were ejected from the trailer or otherwise injured; one passenger was transported by ambulance to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, while several others were privately transported to various local hospitals. The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies.
