The Tampa Bay Reporter recently reported that a New Port Richey woman was arrested recently by Florida Highway Patrol troopers for her role in a motor vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 19 that killed a motorcyclist on the day after Thanksgiving.
A New Port Richey woman, 24 years of age, was charged with one count of DUI (driving under the influence) manslaughter for her role in the death of a Spring Hill man 38 years of age who died as a result of an accident that took place around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, November 2 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 N and Viva Via Drive in Pasco County. Spokespeople from the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the woman was driving a sedan northbound on US 19 in the left turn lane. When she reached the intersection, she turned into the path of a motorcycle, causing a collision between the two vehicles.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a safety helmet, was medically transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the crash.
Law enforcement officials noted that it is crucial for motorists to be situationally aware and keep an eye out for any other vehicles in their vicinity, including motorcycles and bicycles.
