ABC Action News reports that a woman has been charged with DUI after crashing into a Polk County Sheriff’s vehicle. The incident occurred on Tuesday night on a road in Lakeland.
46-year-old India Williams was arrested and charged with driving under the influence following the crash. Two Polk County patrol vehicles were traveling one behind another along the road. Williams was driving a truck in the opposite lanes and officers noted that she was driving erratically. She crossed the centerline. The deputy driving the first vehicle managed to avoid a collision by turning off into a parking lot. Williams crashed head-on into the second patrol vehicle.
The first deputy immediately radioed for help. Both deputies were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The deputy who was driving was treated and released. The second deputy in the vehicle was admitted in stable condition.
Another vehicle behind the patrol vehicles had to swerve into a ditch to avoid the crash. There were no injuries in that incident.
Williams had a blood-alcohol level of 0.145% and 0.151%.
In Florida, DUI penalties can vary depending on two factors: the number of previous DUI convictions and the severity of the current DUI offense.
