TCPalm.com reports that a Fort Pierce man was killed in a tragic accident on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred west of Fort Pierce on Okeechobee Road (also known as State Road 70), around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The man was headed west in the outer lane of Okeechobee Road near Gentile Road, veered off the roadway across the grass shoulder and the sidewalk, rotated to the right, and rammed a wooden utility pole before landing in a ditch. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. There were no passengers.
The accident is still under investigation. Investigators do not know why the driver lost control, and have not released the driver’s identity.
Also this weekend, an accident occurred in Pinellas Park that claimed the life of a motorcyclist, according to Patch.com.
A 60-year-old Largo man was riding a motorcycle south on Belcher Road just after 7:00 p.m. on Saturday when a 61-year-old man from St Petersburg turned in front of him from the eastbound lanes of 114th Avenue. The motorcycle struck the rear of the car and the man was thrown from his bike. He was taken to a hospital nearby but succumbed to his injuries.
