WKRG CBS Channel 5 News reported recently that a fatal crash occurred in Niceville in the very early morning hours of Wednesday, January 6 that shut down the southbound lanes of the Highway 293 Mid-Bay Bridge.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 between 12:00 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Florida Highway 293 near the Mid-Bay Bridge Connector and the bridge that links Niceville to the coastal city of Destin. The southbound lanes of the bridge were closed Wednesday morning for investigation and cleanup. Officials asked drivers to take detour routes until the incident is cleared. No additional information was provided at the time of the report.
WKRG CBS Channel 5 News also reported that a biker was injured in Cocoa Beach, FL, when a mattress fell off a truck into the path of his motorcycle on a state highway bridge. Fortunately, the biker was only going around 30 MPH and escaped serious injury; he was alert and responsive when taken to a local hospital according to local police sources. News sources reminded the public to take care in securing cargo to avoid creating road hazards and possibly injuring other motorists.
