Arlington Police are reaching out for the public’s help for any information about the driver who struck and killed a motorcyclist in the downtown area of the city last night.
NBCDFW reports that the fatal crash happened at approximately 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of North Mesquite Street and West Sanford Street.
A spokesperson for the Arlington Police Department said in a statement that they believe the driver of an older model black Dodge pickup truck did not yield the right of way and struck the motorcyclist. They then fled the scene, heading eastbound on Center Street.
Police officers arrived at the crash scene and found an adult male lying on the pavement near his vehicle. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene.
Arlington authorities have withheld his identity pending notification of family members.
Detectives described the vehicle as a black Dodge pickup truck with an orange construction box mounted to the vehicle’s bed, inferring that the truck will likely have substantial damage to the passenger side of the vehicle after the crash.
The pickup truck was last spotted traveling eastbound on Sanford Street and heading toward North Elm Street.
Anyone with any information about the driver or the pickup truck’s location is being asked to contact the Arlington Police Department at (817) 575-8601 to leave a tip.
