Fox Channel 13 News reported recently that a multi-vehicle roadway accident occurred along Interstate 4 near Plant City, FL on the morning of Saturday, February 27, 2021 that involved one of the Road Ranger workers of the Florida Department of Transportation.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Saturday, February 27, 2021 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) along Interstate 4 near McIntosh Road in the Plant City area. A Road Ranger’s official work vehicle was parked in the outside lane of Interstate 4 with, according to FHP officials, all caution lights, arrow board, and other safety beacons activated. At the same time, a man 42 years of age was driving a pickup truck west on I-4 and attempted to pass another pickup truck. After changing lanes, he collided with the rear of the Road Ranger truck, sending the Road Ranger Truck careening off the road. He then collided with the truck he was trying to pass, spun out, and impacted the center guardrail before coming to rest in the center median.
No one was injured in the accident; the pickup truck’s driver received a traffic citation for his maneuvers. The accident remains under investigation.
