WEAR-TV Channel 3 ABC News reported recently that a Navarre man was struck and killed by a motor vehicle while walking along U.S. Highway 98, a major thoroughfare, in the coastal part of Santa Rosa County on the Florida panhandle on the morning of Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 between 5:45 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in Santa Rosa County, a region of Florida just east of the border between Alabama and Florida near the port city of Pensacola. A man from Navarre, 50 years of age, was walking along U.S. Highway 98 near the intersection of U.S. 98 and Brand Court, in front of a Walmart Supercenter and Murphy Oil. A box truck reportedly swerved and struck the man, who had been walking in the bicycle lane of the highway.
The truck then left the scene, leaving the victim where he fell. First responders arrived and medically transported the man to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the impact.
The accident remains under an active investigation.
