WWSB ABC Channel 7 News / Mysuncoast.com reported recently that a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident along U.S. Federal Highway 41 in the Sarasota area on the evening of Tuesday, March 30, 2021 led to the death of a local motorist.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 between 10:35 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the Warm Mineral Springs Area at 11891 South Tamiami Trail (U.S. Highway 41) in North Port. A van and a motorcycle were involved in the accident, with one person dead and another critically injured and coded as a trauma alert. The accident resulted in a traffic blockage on the southbound lanes of U.S. Federal Highway 41, with traffic being diverted around the accident scene using De Leon Drive and Ortiz Boulevard.
The accident remains under investigation and no other details have been released to the press at this time; the Florida Highway Patrol has not released identities of the victims, which vehicle was at fault for the incident, whether they have located the vehicle responsible, nor a description of the vehicle.
