The Orlando Sentinel reported recently that a motor vehicle accident involving a commercial truck that injured two people and led to spilled granite all over the westbound lanes of Interstate 4 on the evening of Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Orlando Police Department and the Orlando Fire Department, the incident was initially reported between 6:10 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 along Interstate 4 in the Orlando area. While it wasn’t immediately clear how the accident occurred or who’s fault it was, at least one passenger vehicle and a truck carrying a load of gravel were involved.
The truck overturned, spilling a load of gravel across all lanes of the interstate. Two occupants of the passenger vehicle were hospitalized, one in critical condition. The accident closed off all westbound lanes of I-4 in the area of Exit 80 and South Orange Blossom Trail for several hours, finally reopening around 9:30 p.m. Traffic was diverted to Michigan and State Road 408 during the closure.
The accident remains under an active and ongoing investigation and eyewitnesses are asked to contact authorities with any relevant information.
