The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported recently that a pedestrian was killed in a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of U.S. Federal Highway 41 and 69th Avenue West in southern Manatee County on the evening of Wednesday, May 5, 2021.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred between 10:50 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the intersection of U.S. Federal Highway 41 and 69th Avenue West in the southern part of Manatee County. A man from Sarasota, 40 years of age, was attempting to cross U.S. 41 from the east side to the west side, just north of the intersection with 69th Avenue. Simultaneously, a sedan was being driven south on U.S. 41 by a Sarasota man 80 years of age, approaching the intersection, which had a green light at the time.
The sedan struck the pedestrian, causing fatal injuries. The sedan driver was properly wearing his seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation at the present time and any eyewitnesses or other individuals with relevant info are asked to contact the authorities with any information they may have on the incident.
