CBS News reported recently that two pedestrians were struck and killed by a motor vehicle while crossing a street in Clearwater last Friday evening.
According to officials from the Clearwater Police Department and Clearwater Fire & Rescue, the accident occurred between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Court Street, just east of the intersection of Court Street and Missouri Avenue. Two pedestrians, a man aged 59 years and his son, 37 years of age, were involved in the incident. The son was pushing his father in a wheelchair while the father pushed a shopping cart. They were crossing Court Street in the 1200 block, at a place that was not a marked crosswalk or traffic signal. A Cadillac sport-utility vehicle (SUV), driven by a woman from Tampa 52 years of age, struck the pair of pedestrians, inflicting severe injuries on both of them.
Both individuals were taken to Morton Plant Hospital with injuries described as life-threatening by responding authorities. The driver of the Cadillac SUV remained at the scene of the accident and was fully cooperative with traffic homicide detectives from the Clearwater Police Department.
Eastbound lanes were closed for a significant period of time as an investigation was conducted, and no further updates are expected on the case.
