The Northwest Florida Daily News reported Saturday that the Florida Highway Patrol is currently looking for at least two people who may have witnessed a fatal hit-and-run accident in Santa Rosa Beach last Tuesday, October 20.
A video camera near the site of the deadly accident captured the entire collision and surrounding events, according to a public information officer representing Troop A of the Florida Highway Patrol. This camera captured footage of vehicles present at the accident, and troopers are looking for occupants of those vehicles who may have witnessed the deadly events of the accident itself. The accident claimed the life of a 44-year-old Santa Rosa Beach resident who has not yet been identified by law enforcement agencies.
The victim was allegedly riding a bicycle westbound on U.S. Highway 98 about 7:00 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a SUV, van, or crossover-style motor vehicle that was light in color. Investigators state the suspect vehicle is likely to have visible damage low on the front or front-right areas of the car.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is also seeking these witnesses. Both agencies ask that anyone with information contact the Florida Highway Patrol at *347 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-8477.
