WCTV CBS News reported recently that a mysterious death along Interstate 10 in Leon County led to the closure of a highway rest area as Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigated an odd situation on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
According to information provided by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident began on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 between 1:55 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at a rest stop near mile marker 194 of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, by the border between Leon County and Gadsden County, where a body was found by rest stop workers, causing a massive law enforcement response, closing the rest stop, and causing delays to motorists who were asked to stay there for questioning. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office noted that there was no immediate threat to members of the public and that they had a person of interest in the situation.
Law enforcement officials declined to call the situation a murder, but did not provide details on potential suspects, the victim, the manner of death, or any other details surrounding the incident. The rest stop finally opened back up to travelers around 7 p.m. EST on Tuesday, releasing the motorists that had been stuck at the crime scene and restoring normal traffic patterns to the interstate highway.
