MyPanhandle.com reported that a young woman was fatally wounded in a hit-and-run car accident that took place in Calhoun County, Florida on Saturday, March 27, 2021 in which an off-road vehicle struck her as she was walking down the roadway.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol and information issued by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place late on the evening of Saturday, March 27, 2021. A white Can-Am Maverick two-seater off-road vehicle was northbound on NW Lake McKinzie Boulevard when for unknown reasons still under investigation, it swerved over the centerline and struck a girl from Altha, 14 years of age, as she was walking along the other side of the road. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the vehicle continued north on Lake McKinzie.
The vehicle was later located in a wooded area off Sleepy Hollow Road in Jackson County by a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office helicopter.
