The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported recently that a teenager was killed in a tragic incident in Daytona Beach on Friday, March 26, 2021 when he was struck by a motor vehicle while trying to skateboard across an intersection.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Daytona Beach Police Department, the incident took place on Friday, March 26, 2021 between 11:35 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at the intersection of Madison Avenue and White Street in Daytona Beach. A young man from Daytona Beach, 15 years of age, was attempting to cross the intersection on his skateboard when he was struck by a Dodge Journey minivan also trying to cross the intersection. The young man was rushed to Halifax Health Medical Center and then transferred by medical helicopter to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, but ultimately succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the accident on Saturday, March 27, 2021.
Investigators determined the van had the right of way and the driver is fully cooperating with investigators. Charges may be filed after the investigation is complete. The accident is the third this past weekend where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. Two Georgia women were struck on Saturday, with one killed and the other in critical condition at a local hospital.
