The Tampa Bay Reporter reported recently that a woman accused of driving while intoxicated (DUI) on Christmas Eve and causing a wreck that killed a man from Clearwater and seriously injured herself has been charged with several felonies following the deadly incident.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on the evening of Thursday, December 24 between 8:00 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) along Bellaire Road west of S Lake Avenue in Pinellas County. Troopers reported that the suspect was driving west on Belleair Road when, for unknown reasons still under investigation, she lost control of the SUV she was driving, crossed the center line of the roadway, and struck an eastbound pickup truck head-on. The driver of the pickup truck, a man from Clearwater 47 years of age, later died at a local hospital as a result of their injuries.
The suspect, a woman from Temple Terrace 24 years of age, was charged with one count each of Driving with a Suspended or Revoked License Involving a Death (Felony), DUI Manslaughter, and Vehicular Homicide. There has been no bond or court dates announced in connection with the incident.
