KDKA CBS Channel 2 Local Pittsburgh News reported recently that in a story which could only come from Florida, an elderly woman was struck in the head by an airborne turtle that came through her windshield on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol and other responding agencies, the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 along Interstate 95 near Port Orange, FL. A woman 71 years of age was riding with her daughter along I-95 when a turtle smashed through the windshield of their vehicle and struck the woman in her head. The turtle impacted her with such force that the woman’s daughter initially reported to the 911 dispatcher that she was hit by a piece of concrete.
The elderly woman was medically transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries and is reportedly ok. The turtle also only suffered minor injuries, coming through the impact with only scratches on its shell. At this time, police have not determined how the turtle became airborne, but it could have been knocked into the air by another vehicle; in a similar incident near Deltona in 2016, a woman was hit by a flying turtle that had been clipped by another vehicle, sending it airborne.
