ABC Channel 7 New York News reported recently that a tragic motor vehicle accident along Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx on the evening of Sunday, May 16, 2021 caused injuries to two officers with the New York City Police Department.
According to a news release issued by officials with the New York City Police Department, the incident took place between 8:50 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Sunday, May 16, 2021 near the intersection of Bruckner Boulevard and Hunts Point Avenue in the Bronx borough of New York City.
Two NYPD officers were injured when their police motor vehicle crashed into a pole adjacent to the intersection. Videos from bystanders showed that the police vehicle had sustained extensive front-end damage.
The two officers were medically transported to NYC Health + Hospitals / Lincoln, a major trauma center in the Bronx, for treatment of the injuries sustained in the accident.
The police department did not specify the nature of the injuries the two police officers received in the incident. They also did not specify the cause of the accident, or whether the police officers were responsible for the crash.
We hope both officers recover fully, but we also hope there is a full investigation into this matter. We expect our police to uphold the laws. Driving recklessly in a car with extra protection is unsafe.
