The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported on a woman that was killed in a crash with a dump truck in Orange City on Wednesday, October 7.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon just before 1:30 p.m. on US Highway 17/92 (also known as South Volusia Ave within Orange City limits) in front of a local Ford dealership and just south of its interchange with Route 472. A dump truck hit a Volkswagen Beetle; when emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the dump truck rolled over on the side of the road, while the Beetle was smashed against a palm tree, having sustained heavy damage.
An Orange City Police Department spokesperson confirmed the death of the Beetle’s driver, an adult female. It only took four minutes from the arrival of firefighters and rescue personnel to determine that the occupant of the Beetle was deceased as a result of the accident. Both northbound lanes of US Highway 17/92 (South Volusia Ave) were closed for a period of time as crews worked to clear the accident debris and to conduct a traffic accident homicide investigation.
The driver of the dump truck suffered only minor injuries as a result of the wreck, but had to be assisted to get out of the truck.
