The Florida Times Union – Jacksonville.com reported recently that a woman was killed Thursday at the Blount Island terminals of the Jacksonville Port Authority after she was struck by a truck moving freight containers.
According to officials with the Jacksonville Port Authority, the incident took place on Thursday, January 28, 2021 between 1:55 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at a facility located at 9620 Dave Rawls Boulevard on the northwest side of the terminal island in the St. Johns River, part of Jacksonville’s vast container port operation on Blount Island in the middle of the St Johns River. The victim, a woman who worked for a company at the port facilities, was hit by a truck and sustained fatal injuries. She later died at a local hospital after succumbing to the injuries she sustained in the accident.
In a statement released by the Jacksonville Port Authority, JaxPort officials stated they were devastated by the death and that the entire port community was praying for peace and healing for the victim’s family.
The site of the accident, Blount Island, is the hub of Jacksonville’s massive port facilities, one of the largest ports on the east coast of the United States.
